Why housing

Long Beach rents have outrun what a student can carry.

Students at The Beach who commute two hours, sleep in cars, or carry three roommates in a one-bedroom are not failing academically for lack of ability. They are failing for lack of a stable address. Beachview exists to remove that one obstacle, and to keep alumni who want to stay in the city within reach of it.

Today we operate an eight-unit building in Long Beach housing sixteen residents. Each resident pays $750 a month; a comparable unit on the open market in Long Beach leases for $1,800 to $2,200. We are a housing organization first; scholarships and events exist to serve the residents, not the other way around.

What we do

Three commitments, in order.

Provide and maintain housing

Acquire, lease, and operate residential accommodations priced below market for CSULB students and alumni, and keep them in good repair.

Support student success

Award tenant scholarships for books and tuition, and connect residents to campus resources so they stay enrolled and graduate.

Build community

Host events that keep residents and alumni connected to each other and to Long Beach, so the housing produces a network, not just a roof.

Charitable dedication

Assets are locked to the mission.

No part of the net income or assets of this corporation shall ever inure to the benefit of any director, officer, or private person.
